The 44th International Viola Congress has been scheduled for 1 - 5 September 2017. Hosted by  the Australian and New Zealand Viola Society, the congress will take place at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. The German town of Markneukirchen, famous for its 350 years old tradition in musical instrument making, invites young musicians to take part in the 52nd Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition. It will take place from 4 - 13 May 2017 in the categories viola and double bass. There will be 3 rounds and an orchestra final in each category, also a concert of the prize-winners accompanied by the Vogtland Philharmonie Greiz/Reichenbach. Previous laureates include Hideko Kobayashi, Tatjana Masurenko, Thomas Selditz, Barbara Buntrock and Manuel Vioque-Judde. For further information visit  www.instrumental-competition.de

Viola Workshop: Master Classes on the Teachings of Karen Tuttle in Prague (Czech Republic), July 24 - 29, 2016

An intensive five-day course taught by several generations of students of the legendary Karen Tuttle.
The program will include master classes, performances, and one-on-one time with faculty. This conference, held for the first time outside of the United States, is open to students ages 16 and older, professionals, and teachers. The size of the course will be limited so that each participant receives individual attention from each faculty member.

The 2016 International Viola Congress will be held in Cremona, Italy on October 4-8, hosted by Dorotea Vismara for the Associazione Italiana della Viola.

The 41st International Viola Congress was held in Krakow, Poland on September 11-15, 2013, hosted by Prof Boguslawa Hubisz-Sielska and the Polish Viola Society.

The following awards were presented during the congress:

Mission Statement

The International Viola Society (the "IVS" or "the Society") is the umbrella organization that governs and supports existing and future national and regional organized groups or "National Sections" of violists. The Society is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports activities that serve the common good for all friends of the viola.
