What happened to Talca?

On February 27, 2010, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake devastated the city of Talca, Chile; located (335 km/210 miles) Southwest of Santiago. The devastation and destruction of this earthquake was incredible, and the people of Talca are still in desperate need of international help to restore things to the way they were. This includes the arts. As musicians, we are all aware how vital having a thriving arts community is to the happiness of any community.

Before the Earthquake, Bosco Cardenas and Solange Navarette had developed a large thriving string program in the Talca community. The earthquake has damaged the majority of the students instruments, and the program is in serious need of support from the international community in the form of donations of funds and string instruments. The International Viola Society is interested in helping to lead this effort in providing instruments and funds to this earthquake stricken area.
